This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from June 2006 and lives here forevermore.

Safari on trial

Last night I started a trial of using Safari instead of Firefox my main browser. This came about after a conversation with Stephen and David, two colleagues in work, who both use Safari on their iBook and Macbook Pro respectively. That conversation involved me discovering the various plugins that have appeared for Safari since I switched to Firefox in late 2004.

Invaluable in this trial have been both Pimp My Safari and Jon Hicks’ excellent article “Web Development with… Safari”. I’ve followed some of the article in that I’ve installed Webkit, SafariStand and Safari Tidy, as well as SafariBlock (although it doesn’t seem to be working right now), Taboo and Standardized Feed Icon.

So far it’s going well. I’m enjoying the quicker response of Safari (or at least my perception of a quicker response) and not missing the web developer extension and live http headers too much. I can also go into Safari if I really feel the need to use them. I’ll continue this trial for another while and see which I decide to settle on then.
