This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from October 2005 and lives here forevermore.

Dear Translink...

Translink / Northern Ireland railways, a few suggestions for you to help you to improve the service.

  • Don’t wait until the train is late before announcing that it is “delayed”.
  • Don’t tell me it’s delayed by 6 minutes when you know that that is a complete guess.
  • Don’t make another announcement every minute telling me that the train is delayed for one minute longer than the last time, I quickly see the pattern.
  • Don’t announce that my train is cancelled and that the next train to the platform doesn’t go where I want to go.
  • Don’t then immediately announce that the next train is delayed too (after the fact).
  • Do tell me why the delays are happening, it’s much easier to forgive you if I feel that you actually care about me.
  • Do own up and say that you’re not sure when the train will arrive if that is the case.

If you had implemented that advice then it wouldn’t have stopped me from being late into work this morning, but it would have made me much less annoyed and may have helped to maintain the better view I had of the train service lately.

While I have your attention, how about also doing these small things for me?

  • Allow bicycles on the trains before 9.30 in the morning.
  • Make your website work without the www in the url.
