This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from March 2005 and lives here forevermore.

Bye Bye Kevin

Well Keegan has resigned. I must admit that it actually came as a shock. Ever since he took the job I’ve expected him to walk away from it without notice, however when he didn’t leave last season during our particularly rocky spell I thought he might hold on in there. Then he causes me to be surprised by a late night text message from my sister with the news.

I can’t say that I’m disappointed. Once he made it known that he was planning to leave when his contract expired I was worried. When a manager says that kind of thing the team tends to suffer; Strachan at Southampton and Eriksson at Lazio being two recent examples. Therefore I’m glad he has gone. We’re pretty much safe in the Premier League and the timing leaves us with a good opportunity to identify the right man and go after him.

I wasn’t sure when City appointed Keegan and I must admit that I’m still not sure. He has done some excellent work but has also made some awful decisions. I would like to thank him for the excellent work, such as…

  • developing Shaun Wright-Philips into the best player the club has had in many a year,
  • resurrecting Richard Dunne’s career,
  • signing David James who has been outstanding since he joined,
  • winning the First Division, the only silverware some of us remember the club winning,
  • giving some of us our first, albeit short, taste of European football,
  • the 4-1 win against United which I had the privilege to attend.

It has been an interesting few years and overall I’d have to say thanks Kevin. This is a test of the extended entry in Tractate.

Hopefully it works.
