Tony Leung
During the last few weeks I’ve seen some excellent films, thanks to Michele. The films were Infernal Affairs, a Hong Kong drama involving two men working undercover, one within the police and the other within the triads. The other film was In the Mood for Love, a sort of love story, set in 1960s China and Hong Kong. Both starred Tony Leung, a fantastic actor, which also appeared in Hero playing Broken Sword.
Infernal Affairs is apparently going to be remade by Martin Scorcese, and will star Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio. This is a terrible mistake, they won’t do a better job than the original. It’s an excellent film, with excellent performances, and it never gets carried away with pointless car chases, gun fights or action.
In the Mood for Love was a strange film. One of those where not a lot happens, and we just follow two people over a number of years. A lot of the communication is through glances and actions, rather than talking, and two of the supporting characters are never seen, only heard off-screen or referred to by the leading characters. It was also one of those romances where the end was not clear from the start, the type of film I like.
