Tempted by the Apple
Various nice apple news recently. Amongst the nicest and best are…
MacMini: A Mac in a small box. Obviously aimed at PC owners who may be tempted to switch to OS X, but who don’t want to shell out for a new monitor etc… The spec looks decent and I know a number of people who are tempted by it. The iPod Shuffle on the other hand doesn’t grab me, I’d want some sort of screen on an mp3 player. Come to think of it, I’d also want gigs of capacity.
iTunes Ireland: Finally the iTunes store is available in Ireland. A few quick searches on the store indicate that the coverage of Irish bands of the late 80s/early 90s is sadly lacking. Not a song by “A House”, “The Pale”, “Fatima Mansions” or “Engine Alley” to be seen. One tune by “Blink” though, Cello. Despite all of this my Dad will be happy, although our position as his iTunes dealer is fatally undermined now methinks.
TextWrangler for free: Barebones have released TextWrangler as a free product. Previous versions were available to purchase for $49. I’m giving it a go for some development and it seems to be useful.
