This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from August 2004 and lives here forevermore.

First weekend of the season

Well that went reasonably well. A point in our opening game, against Fulham. We could have won the game but yet again fluffed it. However at least some good football was played, and Robbie Fowler scored early in the season. Hopefully that will give the players, and especially Fowler, some confidence for the season ahead.

The best news of the weekend was Shaun Wright Philips signing a new 4-year contract with City. I’m so relieved :) Hopefully we’ll keep him for all of that time. He’s making all of the right noises about staying but, as Owen showed, that doesn’t necessarily mean much nowadays. Philips inclusion in the England squad is also welcome and hopefully he’ll make his debut on Wednesday. If he does I’m likely to watch that match rather than the Republic of Ireland game.

To top it all off United lost, so we’re above them. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts!
