Apple Music store initial thoughts
Well the UK Apple Music Store opened today. 79p per track and 7.99 for most albums. I’m pleasantly surprised, I thought that they’d go for 99p as the price.
The web site claims 700,000 tracks and that may well be true, however many of the artists I have in iTunes are missing, or have substantial chunks of their catalogues missing. For example, Radiohead, Orbital, Aimee Mann, Manic Street Preachers and Morrissey are completely absent, while Asian Dub Foundation, The Auteurs, Ian Brown, Lyle Lovett and Massive Attack have only partial catalogues.
One other feature I would love is tabbed browsing in iTunes. I keep coming across something I’d like to follow, such as an album or an artist, while browsing something else. In an ideal world I could just load up the new thing in a new tab and keep browsing where I am. I reckon it would help me to spend a lot more!
It’s great to have it going though, and I’m sure more stuff will appear as various licensing issues are sorted out, especially with the indie labels. I have also found a few things that I’m interested in downloading so it’s not all bad.
