Taking the Mickey

Mickey Mouse is apparently 75 years old and the news programmes appear to think that I care about this. Surprisingly enough I don’t. I never cared for Mickey and his cohorts. I never found him funny or entertaining. I actually really dislike most Disney stuff for some reason. I’ve never really been able to pin it down but the word that comes to mind is schmaltz. Sickly sweet sentiment, kind of like the Coca-Cola of the entertainment world.

In order to appease any mouse fans out there, I’d like to point out that I don’t have it in for mice in general. There have been many fine mice appearing on tv during my lifetime, amongst them the Bagpuss mice and especially Danger Mouse.
