This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from March 2003 and lives here forevermore.

Book backlog

I’ve made the same promise as Simon Cozens, no more book buying. This has kind of been forced on me by the fact that a quick survey of my shelves uncovered 33 books that I definitely want to read. That doesn’t mean I have only 33 unread books, there are more than that, it just covers the books I really want to finish rather than those that are interesting but can wait.

This has resulted in me starting on the first of the 33, Homicide: a Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon. Other delights sitting beside my bed are The Spanish Civil War by Antony Beevor and Archangel by Robert Harris. After them I’ve got 30 more books to get through, about half on history, a third science-fiction and fantasy and the rest a varied bunch.

I wish I wasn’t so slow at reading nowadays. I used to be a much faster reader, not as fast as Michele who reads at a scary pace and takes it all in, which is even more scary! Now I’m much slower. It’s getting very annoying. Maybe I’m just out of practice?
