Redesigning in public
Mark Pilgrim is the latest person to undertake a redesign in public. Zeldman (everyone seems to just use the surname, I wonder why?) and Brad Choate have both done exactly that in recent times as well. Why is this? I couldn’t do it. I have barely any idea of what look I’m after when I redesign my site and spend a good bit of time just playing with different things. I think it would be far too disruptive for me to do all of these things in public. It’s not for me.
On the other hand, I love to see other people doing it. It’s interesting to see the ideas be tried and accepted or rejected. Sometimes some ideas stick around while others disappear, or at least disappear into an alternative stylesheet. Long may the process continue, just don’t expect me to join in.
