This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from September 2002 and lives here forevermore.

The holiday is over...

Well I’m back to work after 9 days well deserved holiday. I wasn’t looking forward to coming back, as I enjoyed my week of freedom, but now that I’m back I’m settling into it. It still doesn’t beat travelling around Mayo and Galway admiring the countryside, mountains and lakes. Anyway I’ve got a new desktop picture, taken this day last week, of the coastline of Achill Island with the Atlantic breaking on the rocks. It’s a pleasant reminder of the week, as well as being a beautiful sight.

So we had a great time in Mayo, seeing the sights and visiting my Grandad. It doesn’t get much better.

When we came back we went to see Bill Bailey on Saturday night. Fun was had by all.

Finally I’ve seen a few good films on TV in the last few days.

First up was The Godfather (better than good I’m sure you’ll agree). Part 2 is on this Thursday so I’m really looking forward to that. I’d forgotten how good the acting and directing really was. It also reminded me of how good Al Pacino can really be when he bothers to act. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Pacino, but he rarely acts nowadays. Carlito’s Way was probably the closest he’s got recently and as for the “Scent of a Woman”, there’s no way he deserved the Oscar for that.

Then on Friday I watched The Man with Two Brains, a film I’d completely forgotten the plot of, and a film which reminded me why I think Steve Martin is a great comic actor.

Finally on Saturday night I watched Bound, which despite a ropey first half-hour turned into a very good thriller. The first hour seemed to be there for the “shock” value more than anything else, with an attempt to get an audience. I almost gave up on the film there, but held on thanks to Michele and was rewarded with a well put together film.
