This is a single post from deeden.co.uk made during the period May 2002 to April 2009. During a previous grand redesign I decided to make a break with the past and consign the old entries to history. This entry is from August 2002 and lives here forevermore.

Florentia, Lennon and Wimbledon

I’m disgusted at the treatment of Neil Lennon, the Northern Ireland footballer, who received a death threat yesterday which forced him to pull out of Northern Irelands games last night against Cyprus. All of this happening because he plays for Celtic. It’s ridiculous. I’m a Manchester City fan but I still support United players when they play for the Republic of Ireland. In that case they’re playing for my country and that’s what matters. At the moment I don’t want Roy Keane to play, not because he’s a United player, because he’s an ignorant idiot.

On a lighter note, the teams whose results I listen out for is steadily growing. Obviously I listen for City results, but I also wait for Stockport Country (Chris and Ken, my uncle and cousin are fans), Sheffield United (Paul, my mate), Leicester City (Marc) and Aston Villa (Colm, work colleague). In the last week I’ve noticed that I’m paying attention to AFC Wimbledon, the new club created by fans of Wimbledon FC who are disgusted by the clubs proposed move to Milton Keynes (this isn’t an American franchise system you know). Finally Florentia Viola is the new incarnation of Fiorentina, the Italian club which went bust this summer. They got 30,000 peope to their first game yesterday despite being in the Italian 4th division. I admire any fans who still support their team in such numbers no matter what happens to the club.
